Annual Larry Monroe Scholarship Award

INTRODUCTION

The Larry Monroe Scholarship Award is presented annually in memory of former FBI
Agent Lawrence J. Monroe, one of the founders of the National Executive Institute. Larry played a
crucial role in the initial program design, curriculum development and administration of many NEI
programs during his long, distinguished career at the FBI Academy. His untimely death in 1999 led
to the creation of this coveted scholarship.

2014 Recipient

JAYCE L.  BORN RECIPIENT OF THE
2014 FBI NEIA’S LARRY MONROE SCHOLARSHIP

Congratulations go to Jayce L. Born, daughter of John Born, for her selection by the Scholarship Committee as the 2014 recipient of the FBI NEIA’s Larry Monroe Scholarship.  John Born is the Director, of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Jayce was her high school Valedictorian, first in her class and a 4.0 grade point average.  She has been honors student at Ohio Northern University with a double major, again earning a 4.0 grade point average and attaining Dean’s list every semester while also participating as a successful varsity sport collegiate athlete, volunteer, organizer, and in a number of countless organizations on campus.

As part of her honors thesis, Jayce researched and developed a first ever threat assessment system for Ohio Northern University to implement on campus.  She held a security clearance during a United States Secret Service internship while helping case agents on threat and counterfeit currency cases; and she helped identify and recover $221,274 in fraudulent claims while interning for the special investigations unit at the Ohio Bureau of Worker Compensation.

Jayce has participated in the Special Olympics, volunteered as a student advisor and as an orientation leader for freshman students; and was selected as a core member of the university president’s club.

Jayce plans to attend Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law where she wishes to contribute to mental health policy, law enforcement mental health training, and mental health advocacy through a legal career.

Congratulations to Jayce Born as this year’s recipient of the Larry Monroe Scholarship.
